Learner eligibility

To enroll in a BSLN program, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Reside in Nova Scotia

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person

  • Not currently attend school

  • Be proficient in the language of instruction (except for deaf learners)

To be eligible to write the CAEC tests, you must: ​​

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Reside in Nova Scotia

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or protected person

  • Not already have a GED

  • Not currently attend school

  • Lack a recognized high school diploma from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

    I’ve been out of a classroom setting for almost 25 years and I’m in my sixth week of preparing for my CAEC exams at BSLN. My first and biggest fear was not having the skill level to enroll and even get started with the program; however, I was a little surprised by what I am capable of and actually took to the material and process very well…

  • Received my CAEC.

    After being out of school for 40 years, in the Fall of 2024 I decided it was time to upgrade my education.  Here is my story. My journey started on September 19th when I meet with the Executive Director at BSLN to discuss the program and plans for moving forward. On September 23rd, I meet with my instructor, where I completed assessments to determine where I would start in the program. I remember my first day of school, I was nervous and excited at the same time...
